Considering the ancient canons required that candidates for Holy Orders be “homo vir” the question that leaps to my mind is whether, in fact, there is a difference. A couple of years ago I went with a couple of friends to the nearest Roman Benedictine monastery and I wouldn’t have left anyone’s son alone with any of them.
St Paul in two separate epistles sets forth the requirements for the offices in the Church. In both places wives and children are mentioned. Celibacy man not be required but chastity certainly is. And they think of themselves as “The One True Church.”
